The big story coming out of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is the Sony Ericsson Idou and the inclusion of a 12.1 megapixel camera! The picture below is of the aforementioned phone in all it’s glory. Just to clarify, Idou is just the working name, it’ll probably be the K1200i or something equally inspiring when it launches.
While the 3.5″ 16:9 touchscreen is very nice, I can’t help thinking that a 12.1 megapixel camera is OTT, and then some. Without optical zoom, and unless you are intending to print poster sized prints, the vast majority of people will no extra benefit from a 12.1 megapixel camera than they would the plethora of 5 and 8 megapixel camera phones already on the market. Lucky for Sony Ericsson the general puiblic is of the mindset that the more megapixels the better the camera, which isn’t strictly true for everyday use.
Along with the Sony Ericsson Idou, Samsung, HTC and Nokia have been announcing their new phones which include a lot of black touch screen phones with similar features! Kudos to Samsung for at least trying something a bit different with their music phones, DJ and Disc for budding music makers:
